Volunteer

There are many ways to help and no experience is needed!

Tax Preparers: prepare client tax returns. Even if you have no experience, we have an IRS certified training program and lots of people to assist you in getting started. Typically, we need your assistance with preparing tax returns from mid-January through mid-April. You can work as much… or as little as your time allows. Our tax preparation software does all the calculations for you, you just need to fill out the forms as you have them presented to you by the client. You will also be working with other tax preparer volunteers like you and our trained, experienced staff. You must be 18 years old and a U.S. citizen or resident alien to apply.

Intrepreters: provide free language to taxpayers who are not fluent in English.

Financial Navigators (RRNs): speak with our clients regarding the benefit of understanding their personal finances and opportunities to save money. You also facilitate Referrals to other community services. During tax season, the Navigators work as a team with DE Tax & Financial Services Campaign site staff to issue savings bonds, open depository bank accounts, and open prepaid debit cards. You must be 18 years old and a U.S. citizen or resident alien to apply.

Greeters: welcome clients to the tax site during tax season (January-April). You explain the program’s general eligibility guidelines and get the clients started with the intake process. You must be at least 16 years of age. This position is great for new volunteers, teens, and seniors.

Office Support: assist the staff with client inquiries, data collection and analysis, and other general office duties

Important note to all volunteer candidates:
Once you have signed our Volunteer Agreement and completed the Standards of Conduct training module, you are generally protected by the Volunteer Protection Act of 1997 from liability for negligent acts performed within the scope of your responsibilities.
